Marion Junior Ihle, 80, of Nevada and a winter Texan, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, after a battle with cancer, at the Renaissance Hospital in Mission, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th St., in Nevada, with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Burial, with military rites, will follow in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, also at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.

Marion was born Aug. 19, 1929, in Ames, to Joseph and Martha (Larson) Ihle. He went to school in Slater and Sheldahl. Marion served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. On June 26, 1953, he married Norma Higdon in Slater. Marion retired from ALMACO in 1995. He enjoyed woodworking, going to Texas every winter, and spending time with family. Marion was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church, William F. Ball American Legion Post No. 48, and V.F.W. Nevada Post No. 2209.

Marion is survived by his wife of 56 years, Norma; two sons, Bob, of Roland, and Terry (Chris), of Nevada; three daughters, Dawn Jennings, of Ham Lake, Minn., Jolene (the late Mike) Oxley, and Marianne (Randy) Harrelson, all of Nevada; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Norman (Linda), of Webster City, and Herbert (Cathy), of Bonita, Fla.; and a sister, Mary Lou Jansen, of Williams.

Marion was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Michael Oxley on Jan. 10, 2004.

A memorial fund has been established at First Federal Savings Bank of Iowa in Nevada.

Chet Ryan Mortuary has been entrusted with Marion and his family.
