CITY OFFICER DAVE BARCLAY DIES SUDDENLY
Second Policeman In Week To Die Of Heart Attack.

Davis E. ("Dave") Barclay, 62, member of the city police force here eighteen years; died suddenly of a heart attack at his homa at 719 East Harrison Street yesterday morning at 6:45 o'clock.
He had been in impaired health several months, returning to work only a week ago Friday after being off duty since January 12. Apparently gaining strength steadily, he was deeply affected by death last Tuesday of another member of the police force, Corda Siegmund, from a heart attack. While preparing to leave home for the police station yesterday morning, he experienced a severe seizure of angina pectoris and lay down on a davenport, where he lived only about two minutes.
The funeral is to be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Chrlrtlan Church, conducted by the Rev. L. V. Freeman, pastor of the Christian Church, and burial will be made in Highland Park Cemetery. His body is lying in state at the Summers & Powell Funeral Home.
The pallbearer will be men with whom Mr. Barclay had worked on th police force and will include Pius Rogerson, Pearl Arnold, Leo Tarr, Rube Little, Leonard Crow, and Paul Rogerson.
Mr. Barclay, whose full name was Davis Elbridge Barclay, was born at Bloomington, Ill., June 1, 1879, a son of Charles and Elizabeth Barclay. He lived most of his life in this vicinity, attending high school at La Plata and farming several years before coming to Kirksville. Working to various capacities here, among them at the Summers & Taylor Funeral Home, the Swigert Transfer Company and the Shryack Grocery Company, he joined the police force in 1924.
He was married to 1900 to Amanda Jane Dabney and four children were born. His wife died May 13, 1929, and he was married to Mildred Myers on July 17, 1931.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mildred M. Barclay; three daughters, Miss Evelyn Barclay, Adair County Circuit Clerk, Kirksville; Mrs. Bonnie Crow, wife of Emory Crow, Kirksville; and Mrs. Irene Fraser, wife of Dr. Robert Fraser, Rochester, Minn.; one son, Maxwell Barclay, St. Louis, Mo.; three grandchildren, Gerald B. Crow, David and Jane Ann Fraser; three sisters, Mrs. Lillie B. Fuller, Kirksville; Mrs. Ethel Dabney, Kirksville; and Mrs. Betty Brannon, Ft. , Worth.,Tex, and three brothers, Ellis Barclay, Kirksville; George Barclay, Atlanta, and Frank Barclay, Tulsa, Okla.
Nine brothers and sisters and hi parents preceded him to death.
Mr. Barclay was a member of the First Christian Church of Cherryvale, Kan.
