Illegitimate son of Prince Maurice, stadtholder of Holland.
Dutch soldier. In 1620 he fought in Germany, in 1622 he was wounded at the defence of Bergen-op-Zoom, in 1625 he was appointed lieutenant-admiral by his uncle, Prince Frederik Hendrik. He was unmarried but had an illegitimate son William by Barbara Cocx.
