Son of Robert Darius Adams and Jessie Ellen Billingsley

Married Adele Shaw, 5 Apr 1946

Obituary - Bert Jay Adams, 90, of Ogden, Utah, passed away on May 10, 2009. He was surrounded his last few days by many loved ones and friends. He was born on October 29, 1918 in Cedar City and Hurricane, UT. He graduated from Hurricane High School in 1937 and went on to graduate from Dixie Junior College in St. George, UT. He spent summers working in Bryce and Zion Parks. He joined the 222nd field artillery before World War 11 and served in the Pacific, mostly in the Philippine Islands.

After the war he settled in Ogden where he met the love of his life, Adele Shaw, and married her April 5, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They had seven children who were greatly nourished, cared for, and loved by him throughout his life.

He worked at Dover's White Cliff ice cream parlor and later opened his own restaurant, The Blue Bunny, in 1946. He worked for the Arden Dairy and delivered milk for several years. He worked as an insurance agent for Prudential insurance, retiring after 25 years. During this time, he served in many church positions, many years as a Ward Clerk. He later sold real estate.

He and Adele were called on a mission to the Northern California mission in 1980. They stayed close with many friends from there for the rest of his life. On returning from his mission he wanted to put up his feet and finally relax and do volunteer work. He was soon called as a Bishop, serving for 4 1/2 years. He was then called on the High Council. He volunteered at the Union Station Museum for 25 years and received many commendations during that time. He always had a great love and testimony for the gospel of Jesus Christ and served wherever he was called. This love was an example to his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Adele Adams, Sons: Jim (Charlene), Farr West; Bob (Susan), Layton; Russ (Mary), Vernal; Doug (Gabriela), North Plains, Oregon; and son-in-law Ed Hess, North Ogden; Daughters: Ellen (Mike) Shurtz, Vernal; Becky (Don) Caudle, Ogden; Brother: Rex (Maxine) Adams, Fairview, UT; 34 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Lou Ortegon Hess, 8 brothers and sisters and 2 grandsons.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 16, at the Mt. Lewis Stake Center, 1150 No. Monroe, Ogden. Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 PM, Friday, May 15, at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden and Saturday from 9 to 10 AM at the church prior to the services.
