Born to Nancy Elnora Gill and George Washington Morris in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, Oklahoma. Sister of Wilmeth, Nora Lee, Mollie, Cora May, William Welcome, Lula Mamie, Andrew Jackson, George Aaron, Tilly Opal, and Arthur Waylon. She grew up in Murray County, Oklahoma at least through 1910.

In early years she appears in records as Kansas Viola Morris. She was known as Viola throughout her adult life.

Although the family applied for admission for citizenship in the Chickasaw/Chocktaw Nation, they were denied.

She married Alvin Harry Thrasher before 1918 (when Alvin registered for the WWI draft). They were living in Britton, Oklahoma by the time of the 1920 US Census on 10 Jan, 1920, with infant daughter, Adelia. In 1922, the Oklahoma City directory showed that Alvin was assistant manager of the Singer Sewing Machine Company there. By 1925, he was listed as manager for the Singer Sewing Machine company in Oklahoma City.

Husband Alvin died Mar 5, 1930.

By the time they were enumerated for the 1930 US Census on 21 Apr 1930, Viola was running a beauty shop in Oklahoma City. She and Adelia, Viola's retired parents Elnora and George Morris, and brother, Aaron, were living together in her home at 2701 West 21st Street.

By 1935, Viola and Adelia were living in Bexar County Texas.

Daughter Adelia married Marcus Lue Wright on 11 Jun 1937 in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. They moved to Long Beach, California sometime before 1939.

By the time of the 1940 US Census, Viola was working as a maid for Elaine and Manning Sidney Moore (memorial 103047098) in Long Beach, California.

By 1950, Viola was living with her daughter and son-in-law, Mark and Adelia Wright, and their children, Andrea and Patti, at 6182 E. Lincoln Blvd, Anaheim. Viola reported that she was sewing for a shirt manufacturer.
