Ralph Michael Cawley Sr., 58, Middletown
Veteran, loved his family

Ralph Michael Cawley Sr. 58, of Allston Avenue, Middletown, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Mary E. (Alvernas) Cawley; they were married 35 years.

Born in Providence on August 11, 1950, He was a son of Raymond J. Cawley of Newport and the late Dorothy M. (Miller) Cawley.

A 1968 graduate of Rogers High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force after high school and served during the Vietnam War. He was a heavy equipment operator for the R.J. Cawley Construction Company, the International Paving Company in Pawtucket, and more recently J.A.M. Construction Company in Middletown.

A NASCAR racing enthusiast, he enjoyed camping but most of all loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Besides his wife and father, he leaves a daughter, Aimee M. Anderson and her husband Christian of North Kingstown; his sons, Ralph M. Cawley Jr. of Newport and John R. Cawley of Middletown; his brothers and sisters, Margaret Boyle and her husband Ron of Vienna, Va., Raymond J. Joe Cawley Jr. and his wife Elisabeth of Newport, Dorothy Meyer of Mankato, Minn., Sister Constance Cawley, SSJ, of Chicopee, Mass., Patrick Cawley and his wife Meryle of Newport, Catherine Andrews and her husband Gerald of Miami, Fla., Anne Alton and her husband Brad of Wakefield, Mary Norbury and her husband Robert of Middletown, and John Cawley and his wife Shannon of Portsmouth; a brother-in-law, Richard Souza of Newport; a sister-in-law, Elaine Clark of Greenfield, Mass.; five grandchildren Ainsley Marie Anderson, William Patrick Cawley, Deamontee Xavier Cawley, Haley Marie Manning and Savannah Leigh Cawley; and several nieces and nephews. He was a brother of the late Patricia Souza, Thomas Cawley and Rosemary Marvel.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Friday, March 27, in St. Josephs Church, Newport. Burial was private.
