Lyman was the son of Jacob Hodge(s) and Sarah Williams.

His first wife was Ann Hubbard, daughter of David and Abigail Hubbard. She was born about 1800 and died April 3, 1822, in Manlius, Onondaga, New York. They were married about 1820, and were the parents of Mary Samantha Ann Hodges, born about 1821 in New York.

Lyman's second wife was Mary A. Brown, daughter of Ephraim Brown and Mercy Atchinson. She was born about 1802, in Massachusetts and died Feb. 21, 1880, in Brooklyn, New York. They were married March 8, 1823, and were the parents of Sarah Jane Hodges. She was born Dec. 3, 1823, and married George Norman Barnard, a famous Civil War photographer, on January 24, 1843, in New York. Sarah died March 25, 1884, in New York, New York.

Lyman's third wife was Lydia Jane Forrest, daughter of Andrew Forrest and Jane Graydon. She was born March 24, 1786, in Pennsylvania. They were married August 4, 1831, in Milton, Northumberland, Pennsylvania.
