Funeral Mass for retired 1st Sgt. Robert L. Baca, 61, Lawton, will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. Kirk Larkin, pastor, officiating.

Sgt. Baca died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, in Chickasha.

Burial with military honors will be in Fort Sill National Cemetery under direction of Becker Funeral Home.

A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home chapel.

He was born Jan. 5, 1948, in Albuquerque, N.M., to Rito and Georgiana Zimmerly Baca. He married JoAnn E. Sanchez in Albuquerque. He retired from the Army after 23 years of service. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and had also served in Korea. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal - Korea, Vietnam Service Medal with Silver Service Star, Army Good Conduct Medal-7, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with Numeral Three, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon-3, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Overseas Service Bars-3, Expert Badge (rifle M16) and the Army Superior Unit Award. Following his retirement, he worked at Cameron University as a reference librarian. He received two master's degrees from the University of Oklahoma. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law: Robert and Gloria Baca and Gerald and Vanessa Baca, all of Lawton; and Rito and Melissa Baca, Hawaii; a daughter and son-in-law, Veronica and James West, Lawton; his mother; Albuquerque; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Millicent and Dan Manspeaker and Patricia Montoya, all of Albuquerque; and five grandchildren: Robby Baca, Alyssa Baca, Krista Baca and Max Baca, all of Lawton; and Bryanna Baca, Hawaii.

He was preceded in death by his father.
