CAIRO - Samuel Smith - 84, a retired farmer, died at 7:15 p.m. yesterday in his home here. He had been seriously ill for one week.
Mr. Smith was born April 28, 1871, in Bath Township. On Dec. 16, 1897, he married Ida Leunberger, who died April 2, 1952. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Cairo and a charter member of the Sugar Creek Grange.
Surviving are two sons, Harold, Route 1, Harrod, and Charles, Route 3, Lima; a daughter, Mrs. Carroll Alger, Route 5, Lima; a granddaughter, Mrs. Richard Dillingsly, whom the Smiths' raised from a child; three brothers, Eli, Lafayette, and John Houston, Tex., and Will, Columbus; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Sheets, Coldwater, Mich., and Mrs. Tilly Leedy, Harrod; 12 other grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Harris Funeral Home, Columbus Grove, with the Rev. Willard Thomas officiating, assisted by the Rev. Charles Cooley. Burial will be in the West Side Cemetery, Cairo.
