Elisha Green Bivens was a twin to Elijah King Bivens and one of ten children born to Hugh and Harriett Nolen Bivens of Savannah, Tennessee. He was born in Lauderdale County, Alabama, May 1831. Hugh sold his eighty acres in Alabama and moved to Hardin County, Tennessee.

He served in Company G, 1st Confederate Regiment, Cavalry.

Montague County Democrat, 1892
Last Tuesday at 3 o'clock in this city, two hearts were made to beat as one--"to share each other's woes, to share each other's happiness"--the contracting parties were E.G. Bivens and Mrs. Fannie Hull, who were joined in the holy bonds of wedlock, Rev. W.M. H. Rippey officiating. The groom is one of our city's thorough business men and leading merchants, the bride, one of the fairest ladies, who will make the home cheerful. The Democrat crew was kindly remembered in the shape of a nice lot of cake, which is duly appreciated. A long life of unalloyed matrimonial bliss, is what the Democrat wishes for them.

Elisha was married to;
Sarah Frances "Fanny" Ryan Hull,
Rhoda Carolyn Powers

He moved to Texas in 1874.
