Shirley was second of 3 daughters, of Nellie (Spurlock) and Irving Drennon. Her sisters were Dorothy (Mrs Harold Dillon), and Ruby (Mrs Neal Lindsey.)Shirley was born in Fort Collins, CO while her father worked as Sugar Boiler for the Great Western Sugar Company. Her mother, Nellie, took in friends and family to live at their home during the depression when Shirley was young.

Shirley was close to her cousin, Betty Kern. They were nearly the same age and spent much of their younger years doing things together. They attended the same schools together as well.

Shirley married Orin Abrams around 1935. They had 3 children (Kathy,Robert and Nancy) and moved to Oregon.

After Orin's illness and death, Shirley reconnected with her childhood sweetheart. She and Clem Spurlock married in 1980 and played bluegrass music together. She died Oct 19 1993. Clem followed her in 2008. They are still singing together with Clem's father, uncle, cousin and brothers in Heaven.
