Birth Year

Although the grave marker and her obituary (see the 28 Dec 1908 issue of the Newton Press, Newton, IL) both suggest that she was born on 21 May 1841 given the reported age of 67 years, 6 months, 28 days; the information for both of these sources likely came from the same person(s) around the same time period of December 1908.

However, if you take the date of 21 May and compare that against the reported age values from the 1850-1900 U.S. Censuses (during this range of years, the reference point was June 1st -- what is your age relative to June 1st?), it would appear that Lydia was actually born in 1840. In 1850, she was shown to be 10. In 1860, she was shown to be 20. In 1870, she was shown to be 30. In 1880, she was shown to be 40. In 1900, she was shown to be 60. Therefore, it appears that Lydia was really 68 years, 6 months, and 28 days when she died.

Marriages

Lydia's first marriage was to Lewis HAYES in Allen County, Indiana on 15 Jan 1863 (Thu). She and Lewis raised a family in Clay County, Indiana. After Lewis died, she moved to Coal City, Owen County, Indiana.

On 01 Mar 1890 (Sat), Lydia married Thomas K. MILLER in Owen County, Indiana. She then moved to Jasper County, Illinois where Thomas had lived for most of his life. In January 1896, Lydia, Thomas and Columbus (a son from Thomas' first marriage) moved to Fitzgerald, Georgia. After Thomas died there on 24 Sep 1900 (Mon), Lydia moved back to Jasper County, Illinois to live near two of her sons, James Wilson HAYES and John HAYES.
