He was born January 4, 1934 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of Earl A. and Ethel (Crawmer) Aler.
Earl retired from the Air Force Reserves as a Major General, receving numerous military decorations. He was a life-long active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and served the church as Elder, Deacon, Trustee and Treasurer, as well as, all-round handyman. He was an active member of St. Andrews Lodge 619 Free and Accepted Masons and served as the Treasurer of the Shrine Club.
He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1955 with a B.S. Degree in Industrial Management and was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity. He retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Senior Executive Service, after 32 years. He held the position of Director, Joint Logistics Systems Center after he had served six years as the Deputy Director of Air Force Civilian Personnel at the Pentagon.
His survivors include beloved wife of 53 years, Kathryn (Mock) Aler, sister Sharon Flannery of Indianapolis, Indiana, daughter Karen Phillips of Springfield, daughter and son-in-law Kay and William Vasileff of Springfield, son and daughter-in-law Earl and Suzie Aler of Ramstein, Germany, and daughter Kristy Aler of Springfield; twelve grandchildren, Adam (Kelsey) Phillips, Ashlynn (Justin) Davis, Amber Phillips, Jamie Barker, Alicia (Nicola) Granato, Kellsea Vasileff, Mallory Aler, Sierra Aler, Erin Aler, Benjamin Aler, William Cole Vasileff, Ethan Aler; and four great-grandchildren, Annalice Phillips, Andrew Bumgarnder, Finton Barker, and Hagen Phillips; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Earl enjoyed playing golf, water skiing, traveling with Kathy and being a pilot.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 11 a.m. in Covenant Presbyterian Church, 201 North Limestone Street with Rev. Ray Stewart officiating.
Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church Kitchen Fund, 201 North Limestone Street, Springfield, Ohio 45503 or Shriner's Childrens' Hospital, 1900 Richmond Road, Lexington, Kentucky 40502.
