Albert E. Garrison Sr., 89, of Oklahoma Borough, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Sept. 29, 1920, in Spragges, Green County, a son of the late Roy and Minnie (Smith) Garrison. Albert lived in Oklahoma Borough since 1962 and worked as a field foreman for Peoples Natural Gas Co., retiring in 1985. He was a World War II veteran who served in the 15th Army Air Corp. in Northern Africa and Italy. Albert was a member and trustee of First United Methodist Church, in Vandergrift. He was also a member of the VFW and American Legion Post 266, Leechburg, and a secretary of the American Legion. Al was a former mayor of Oklahoma Borough and former councilman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy, John and Charles Garrison; and two sisters, Lois Hallman and Doris Nickey. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Freda L. (Hixenbaugh) Garrison, of Oklahoma Borough; two sons, Albert E. (Connie) Garrison Jr., of Spring Church, and Charles E. (Patricia) Garrison, of Oklahoma Borough; a daughter, Linda (Gregory) Crystal, of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren, Sharon and Amy Smith, Edward Garrison, and Brian and Michael Crystal; and six great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY Apollo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Jerry Schmidt presiding. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park Mausoleum, Lower Burrell.
