LeRoy John "Spike" Perry, 65, who served in three wars during a 30 year military career, died of cancer. His funeral was held Friday, Dec 23, 1988, with burial with military honors.
Spike was born June 15, 1923, in Baker to John and Lydia Perry. He grew up on an eastern Montana ranch and attended rural school.
Perry joined the Navy in 1940 and was among survivors when the USS Princeton was sunk in the South Pacific during World War II. Soon after his discharge from the Navy in 1946, he was married to Bernice Axel of Little Falls, Minn. They had four children. He enlisted in the Army, and retired from the Army in 1972. He had earned numerous medals including several Purple Hearts.
He married Delores Delger on May 8, 1974, in Great Falls.
Since his days on the ranch, he enjoyed carpentry and was a handyman. He belonged to the veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans and attended Emmanuel Church.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Iva, (Step-Mother) of Marmarth; children Barbara Ann Nunnelly of Richmond, VA, John D of Merrill, Wisc., Curtis of St Cloud, Minn., Duane of Fargo, ND; sister Ramona Elmore, of Great Falls; six grandchildren. His father (and Mother) and a sister preceded him in death.
