Daniel was one of 4 Marines (along with CPL Ismael Cotto, LCPL David Snyder, and LCPL Scott Schroeder) killed in a friendly fire incident during the Battle of Khafji, Saudi Arabia (specifically at OP 4) in Operation Desert Storm. He was a crewman in a LAV25-AT that was struck by a TOW missile fired from another LAV25-AT in the engagement. In the news reports at the time, he was labelled as the first Texan to die in the ground engagement of the Gulf War. His death, and the overwhelming response from across our nation and especially the small communities in our area, will always be remembered. To accommodate the tremendous outpouring of support, his funeral was held in the Whitehouse High School gym and the procession to the Flint Cemetery was over 2 miles long.

Daniel was a dynamic individual who loved his family and his country. He had a passion for music, particularly the long haired bands of the 80's, and was an excellent artist with a pencil. He worked extremely hard in his tragically short life, and was supremely honored to be a Marine, enlisting in 1989. We in his family will always be proud of him. After his father Bruce Nolan Walker died, he was cremated and a portion of his remains were scattered on Daniel's grave. (Jesse Walker)
