John W. Scott died at this home, in Madison, last Friday Morning. Aged 66 years. He was born in Jefferson County, but for some time resided in this county. He married Miss Sarah Protsman, of near Mooresfield, in 1857 the ceremony being performed by Rev. Sparks. He was a member of the M. E. Church of Madison, a Mason, stood high in the business and social circles. He was called "Honest John' and nobody questioned his integrity. He was elected Treasurer of Jefferson Co. in 1876. He leaves seven children: Elias, Elmer, Allison, Mrs. Ida Patton, Mrs June Gordon, Misses Anna and Ethel. He was a cousin of James M. Scott, of Vevay. The funeral was held at Madison last Sunday.
