Frederick R. Pausch

Frederick Richard Pausch of Columbia died June 26, 2006, at his residence. He was 83.

Born Nov. 7, 1922, in Baltimore, he attended the University of Baltimore, Rollins College and the University of Maryland Law School. He served as a medic in the U.S. Army during World War II and fought during the Battle of the Bulge and received an honorable discharge.

Mr. Pausch worked for the Henry Rose Co. and later served as vice president and manager of the Paramount Insurance Co. in Baltimore for 25 years.

In addition, Mr. Pausch headed a program for several years called U.S.-China Ventures, which sent American teachers to China to teach English to Chinese teachers. He later headed a nonprofit group called Up With Kids that provided after-school activities for English as a second language students in Howard County. The program would later extend to help educate children in northern Thailand.

Surviving him are his wife of 50 years, Virginia Dorey Pausch; a daughter and son-in-law, Tamara Pausch and William Albert Mason Jr.; a son and daughter-in-law, Randolph Frederick Pausch and Jai Pausch; six grandchildren; and a surrogate daughter and her husband, Ruby Lu and Brian Viard.

No funeral services are scheduled.
