Franklin E. Carithers
Franklin E. CARITHERS, 71, died at 3:30 a.m. today at Woodlawn hospital, where he had been a patient since 11:30 p.m. Thursday. Death was from peritonitis, caused by a ruptured appendix. He had been ill since Monday. All his life had been spent in the vicinity of Lake Manitou, where he was engaged in farming.
He was born in 1884, on a farm east of Rochester to Hiram and Melissa Josephine (COLLINS) CARITHERS. On Nov. 3, 1922, he was married to Myrtle DOYLE at Rochester. She preceded him in death June 26, 1954. Mr. Carithers was engaged in farming on R.R. 2, and was an active worker in various conservation projects in this vicinity. He was a member of the Rochestr Loyal Order of Moose.
Survivors are a son, Franklin E. CARITHERS, Jr., Indian Orchard, Mass.; a step-son, John N. DOWNS, New York City; three step-daughters, Mrs. Albert McCLOUGHAN, Rochester; Mrs. D. C. MILBURN, Canton, O., and Mrs. Ben VAUGHN, Chicago; nine grandchildren; a brother, Albert CARITHERS, Argos, and a sister, Mrs. Walt BROOKER, Rochester. A sister, Mrs. Fred MOORE, preceded him in death June 7, 1951.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home. The Rev. Jessie YOUNG of Rochester will officiate. Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
