James came with his parents to Kansas in 1885. he was married to Hattie A. Clary at Wellington, Kansas, April 3, 1894 and resided on a farm near Gueda Springs until 1901 when they moved to Wellington, where he entered the grocery and restaurant business. in 1906, He erected the Ideal Rooming House at Wellington. He and his family came to Newton in 1914.
