In the War Between The States, Alpheus S. BUTTS served in the 7th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry (State Guards). This regiment was organized in the summer of 1863 and mustered into the Confederate army to serve in local defense within the state of Georgia. It was disbanded in February 1864. On the roll of Company A, Beman Mounted Infantry, is Alpheus S. BUTTS, enlisted as a private and discharged with the rank of corporal.
