Rev. J. K. Godbey, one of the oldest and best known Baptist divines in Central Missouri, died last night at his home in Clarksburg, aged 69 years. His wife died several years ago, but he is survived by one son and four daughters. The remains will be brought to Smithton where the interment will take place tomorrow.
Rev. Godbey was born at Somerset, Pulaski county, Ky., and was educated there. In 1861 he was ordained as a Southern Methodist Minister, but in 1866 changed his faith and was ordained as a Baptist divine. He came to Missouri about 50 years ago. - Sedalia Democrat - Friday, November 23, 1906 pg.4
