Remer Young Clark, Jr., MD, 93 died at his home on Thursday, November 5, 2009 after a long illness. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church in Marietta with Rev. Don Esa officiating. Burial will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery, Marietta, Georgia.

Dr. Clark graduated from Carlyle Military Academy, the University of Georgia, Georgia College of Medicine, and did a further internship in general surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. In the middle of this, he took time out to serve in the United States Air Force in WWII.

After the war and medical school, he brought his wife, Ann Elaine Clark to Marietta, Georgia to start his family, and he saw a potential for growth here with the Bell Bomber plant and the proximity to Atlanta. He opened his first office in 1951 on Roswell Street next to the bus station. He saw patients in the office, the emergency room, the hospital, and he made house calls. He made his last house call when he was 83 years old. He served as President of the Cobb County Medical Society, Chief of Staff on Kennestone Hospital, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marietta; the Marietta Rotary Club, the Marietta Country Club, and the Portal Hunting Club.

His hobbies were hunting and fishing, but his passion was always the practice of medicine. There was never a time he would turn someone away because the hour was too late or their purse too poor. The patient's needs always came first, it could be Sunday afternoon or midnight, it made no difference. And the last house calls? His pay was a check for $18.00.

He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Michaelson; son, Remer Y. Clark, III & his wife, Patricia all of Marietta, and one grandson, David Michaelson.

Contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 189 Church Street, Marietta, GA 30060 or to the University of Georgia, Educational Fund, 394 South Milledge Avenue, Athens, GA 30602. Family will receive friends 3-5 pm Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home & Crematory in Marietta. www.mayeswarddobbins.com
