Loomis served in the Civil War. He enlisted as a Private on 12 Sep 1862 in Co. G of the 13th Penn. Infantry Regiment and was mustered out on 26 Sep 1862. He re-enlisted on 28 Oct 1862 as a 2nd Lt. in Co. D of the 171th PA Infantry Regiment and was mustered out 8 Aug 1863. He received a pension for his second service.
