The three flat pink tombstones in this photo are graves of Ida McDuffie Hood, her husband, Louis Porter Hood, and her son, Henry W. Wholford - - next to her parents' graves, William Wallace and Mary Etta Trotter McDuffie - - on the old hill in an older part of Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Smith Road, Southside, Etowah Co., AL.

HOOD, Ida McDuffie, 10/24/1866-1/2/1954, married #1: John Wohlford and #2: Louis Porter Hood. Ida was a daughter of W.W. and Mary Etta Trotter McDuffie and was buried alongside her parents. Ida's two children: Henry W. Wohlford and Mayme Wohlford. Henry is buried in Pilgrims Rest and Mayme Wohlford (Custer Lamar) Cookson is buried in Forrest Cemetery. Ida was the sister to M. Willie Sturkie and Mary Katherine Sheffield, all three sisters buried in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Ida's grandchildren: Mary Lamar Cookson (W.B.) Hahn, Margaret Bell Cookson (H.E.) Myers, Catherine Cookson (A.O.) Thomson, and C. L. Cookson.

HOOD, Louis Porter, 3/9/1869-5/7/1953, survived by wife: Ida McDuffie Hood, one step-daughter: Mrs. C.L. Cookson, one brother: Joe B. Hood and one sister: Mrs. Ida Wright. Mr. Hood was a Cherokee Co. native and a farmer. He was buried alongside his wife, Ida McDuffie Wohlford Hood, and her parents. The 1870 Cherokee Co., AL, Gaylesville census shows Lewis 2 mo. and 1880 Cherokee Co. census show Louis P. 11, son of Benjamin F. Hood and Mary J. Hood. Mary, 56, was a widow on 1900 census living in household with Porter, head; Ida, sister; and brother, Joseph on Gilberts Ferry in Etowah Co., AL. By 1910 Kansas Pct., Etowah Co., AL, Porter was married to Ida Wohlford Hood. Census showed Ida was mother of 4 children, only two living and they were Henry Wohlford and Mayme Wohlford (m: C.L. Cookson.)


WOHLFORD, Henry W., 9/18/1888-8/14/1918. Henry W. was a son of Ida McDuffie Wohlford and John Wohlford. Ida later married L. Porter Hood and their graves are along side graves of Henry W. Wohlford and Ida's parents, W.W. and Mary Etta Trotter McDuffie. Obituary shows Henry W., age 28, died in Tuscaloosa, AL due to typhoid fever. Henry had a sister, Mayme Wohlford Cookson, buried in Forrest Cemetery.

Ida Bell McDuffie Hood 10/24/1866-1/2/1954 - - grave is actually in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery on Smith Road, Southside, Etowah County, Alabama on the old hill in an older section of the cemetery. Her grave is alongside her husband, Louis Porter Hood, her son, Henry W. Wohlford, her parents, Mary Etta Trotter McDuffie and William Wallace McDuffie.
