Charles P. Wannall was born in Maryland according to census records others show Washington City. He was the son of Thomas Wannall, mothers name unknown. He was a Justice of the Peace, Grocer, and a clerk in the Department of Treasury in Washington D.C. Charles was married twice, first to Mary Miles on January 8, 1835 in Washington. She died in 1848 during child birth along with the baby. He later married Mary Hollingshead of Baltimore, Maryland June 17, 1852. With his second wife he had his only child Lizzie Maury Wannall born in 1855. Lizzie married Edward Payson Goodrich of Washington D.C. and lived to the age of 90 years old.

He had three known brothers William Wannall, Thomas Wannall and Joseph Wannall, and two sisters, Mary Wannall and Margaret. He died in June 1893 and was buried in Oakhill Cemetery, Georgetown, Washington D.C. There is no stone marking his burial spot.
