Dale Kirk Young, one of six children of Hugh Young and Grace (Hendry) Young, was born October 16, 1926, in Superior, Nebraska. He was raised, grew up and was educated in Superior, graduating from Superior High School with the Class of 1944.

He served his country in the United States Navy both in World War II and the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged from both wars as a Storekeeper, Second Class.

On November 10, 1953, he was married to Ruby Cook in Superior, Nebraska. To this union was born three children.

Dale had served as a Superior Volunteer Fireman for 24 years, a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Posts, Eagles Lodge and at held offices in all of these organizations.

Dale's occupational life was spent as a mail carrier and served for 39 years with the United States Postal Service. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, enjoyed working in his yard. He followed all types of sports and was especially proud of his family and his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Young; and 2 sisters, Cecil Thompson and Elizabeth (Betty) Moore.

He is survived by his wife Ruby and his 3 children, Cindy Nielson and her husband Jerry of Superior, Kirk Young, and Byron Young and his wife Martha, all of Superior; 3 grandchildren, Jordan and Jacey Young and Kendra Nielson; 2 sisters, Evelyn Honeycutt of Nelson and Phyllis Vaseconcellas of Sacramento, California; many other relatives and friends.

Dale passed away on March 14, 1991, in the Good Samaritan Center in Nelson at the age of 64 years, 4 months and 21 days.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 18, 1991, at 2:00 p.m. from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, Nebraska, with Rev. Jerry Heeydenberk officiating. Music was provided by soloist Carol Shambaugh singing "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lord's Prayer" with Carlita Price as organist and accompanist. Casket bearers were Mike Bolte, Franis Bolte, Keith Jackson, Phillip Bolte, Mike Honeycutt, and Pete Peterson. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Schaff, Dick Claussen, Glen Thompson, Bruce Stiles, Leo Zadina, Willard Springer, and Carl Suchsland. Burial with military rites by the V.F.W. and American Legion Posts of Superior was in the Evergreen Cemetery. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior was in charge of the arrangements.
