Graveside services for M. E. "Gene" Elkins, 88, will be held at White Hall Cemetery, Monday, November 23, 2009 at 2:00 PM with Bro. Jim Cross officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Haynesville, LA. Mr. Elkins passed away Friday, November 20, 2009 at Heritage Nursing Center in Haynesville.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Bailey Mortuary in Haynesville, LA from 5:00 to 9:00 PM.
Mr. Elkins was born in Shongaloo, LA on April 12, 1921 to Med and Ila Lee Elkins. He was a lifelong resident of Shongaloo, graduating from Shongaloo High School. He proudly served his country in World War II. Mr. Elkins was a heavy equipment operator and really enjoyed life. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather. He loved his family dearly and also all of his friends. Preceding in him in death were his parents and his wife, Thelma Elkins.
He is survived by one son, Lee Elkins & friend, Joann Harsen of Shongaloo, LA; three daughters, Connie Senn of Magnolia, AR, Faye Armand & husband, Sebastian of Gonzales, LA, Rosemary Richerson & husband Kevin of Magnolia, AR; grandchildren, Lisa Boling, Mitzi Goffin, Carol Senn, Jason Senn, Troy Dison, Barry Dison, Joey Brewer, and Adam Richerson; one brother, Herman Elkins of Leton, LA; special friend, Carman Thornton; thirteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
