She was the wife of the late Robert J. "Cookie" Cook who preceded her in death on May 24, 2004.
Mrs. Cook was born on July 22, 1925 in Perry County, the daughter of the late William R. and Carrie (Bair) Stroup.
She was formerly employed with the Liverpool Dress Factory, Lesher's Restaurant, and Lowe's Restaurant, both in Liverpool. Known by all as Leona she was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and the Liverpool Fire Co. and Liverpool Ambulance Co. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, NASCAR racing, with Jeff Gordon as her favorite driver; gardening, flowers, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Cook is survived by her four children, Brenda Swartz of Millerstown, Gary Cook and his wife Dolores of Liverpool, Van Cook and his wife Brenda of Abilene, TX and Sandra Cook of Carlisle; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sylvia Knouse, Clara and Chet Lowe, all of Liverpool; nieces and nephews. Leona was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Elwood "Woody" Swartz and three sisters, Goldie Kell, Hazel Clouser, and Marie Delbaugh.
There will be no viewing. A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 1:30 p.m., until the time of the memorial service to celebrate Leona's life at 2 p.m., at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes, Inc., 606 N. Front Street, Liverpool, PA 17045. Officiating will be her pastor Rev. Betsy Lartz. Inurnment will be made in the Liverpool Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in loving memory of Leona to Aseracare Hospice, 75 S. Houcks Road, Harrisburg, PA 17109.
