Born in Elbert County, Ga., on Aug. 27, 1922, he was a son of the late Henry A. and Marietta Dye Bell, and was a graduate of Fortsonia High School, Fortsonia, Ga. Mr. Bell retired from Monsanto (now Solutia) as Traffic Control Manager after over 24 years service with the company.
A member of South Main Street Baptist Church, he was a member and teacher of the Couples II Sunday School Class for over 30 years, and formerly served as Deacon of the Church. Mr. Bell was a member and past president of Gideon's International, Greenwood North Camp, and was very active in conducting prison, nursing home and assisted living ministries for many years.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of Sterling House, are two daughters, Susan Bell Lord of Travelers Rest and Angela Bell Dorn of Troy; a brother, Hubert A. Bell of Elberton, Ga.; two sisters, Frances B. Hudson and Catherine Bell, both of Elberton; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Preston Foxworth, the Rev. Henry Schwarzman, the Rev. John Abrams and the Rev. David Corbitt officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Clement Lord, Billy Dorn, Michael Waters, Timothy Lord, Nathan Lord and Brian Jacobs.
Honorary escort will be members of the Couples II Sunday School Class of South Main Street Baptist Church.
The family is at the home of Lawrence and Sarah Breazeale, 112 Sheffield Road in Greenwood, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 to 3 p.m. this afternoon.
