He was the husband of Alice Adkins Vest. Cecil and Alice were parents of 15 children. Five infants; sons Roscoe, Okey, Darlo, Orville (also seen as Orvel), Daniel, Robert and Hazel Darmon Vest; and daughters Pauline Vest Shelton, Maxine Vest Tickle and Florine Vest DiNuzzo. Mr. Vest worked in farming and mining and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
Funeral services were held in the Bluestone Primitive Baptist Church, Summers County, with Elder Eli Lilly and Elder Kenneth Lilly officiating. Burial was in the Anderson Vest Cemetery, Summers County.
