He e was the son of Rufus Francis and Odessa "Dessie" Rhodes Jones. He spent his childhood in the Chambers and Lake McAlester areas. He married Ethel Jean Stacey on June 29, 1961, in McAlester. They moved to Borger, Texas, for a short while and he began working for Dr. Dill at his veterinarian clinic. He later returned to the Scipio area where he acquired land and, along with his wife, raised Brangus cattle and Quarterhorses. He enjoyed many things including rodeoing, raising cattle and breaking horses. He had a special gift with horses and had broken and trained many horses throughout his life. He also enjoyed watching his grandkids, being on the ranch with his wife and spending time at the Scipio Store. He was a member of the Tannehill/Scipio Lake area Fire Department, the Lone Grove Cemetery Board and the Lone Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Ethel Jean Jones, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Ray and Linn Jones, of McAlester; a daughter and son-in-law, LaDonna Jean (Jones) and Matt Murdaugh, of McAlester. Also, five grandchildren, Crystal Renee Jones, Justin Ray Jones, of McAlester, Matthew Charles Murdaugh, of McAlester, Jake O'Neal Murdaugh, of McAlester, and Mariah Rae Krebbs, of Savanna. And, four sisters, Mamie Shores, of Shawnee, Mary Trimm, of McAlester, Lois Geneva, of McAlester, and Ruth White, of McAlester; two sisters-in-law, Johnnie Faye Collier and husband, Vernon, of Scipio, and Terrie Jo Stacey, of Scipio. And, a brother-in-law, Joe Stacey and wife, Kasi, of Scipio; his mother-in-law, Jo Ethel Stacey, of Scipio; his best friend, Clyde Scott and Julie, of Cabiness, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Dessie Jones; two sisters, Betty Simpson and Ruby Roland, and four brothers, Lawerence Jones, Larry Jones, Oscar Jones and Bud Jones. Pallbearers will be Matthew Murdaugh, Jake Murdaugh, Oben Weeks, Tom Payne, Dewey Wimberly and Chuck Osborne. Honorary pallbearers will be Clyde Scott, J.B. Barlow, Sonny Bowen, Ray Hood, Roy Lott, D.L. McAfee, Vernon Collier, Bob McMurtry, Ron Davis, Connie Geneva, Charles Holt and members of the Lone Grove Free Will Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bishop Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Arty Hearod officiating. Burial will be at Hugh Low Cemetery under direction of Bishop Funeral Service.
