Elmira was the daughter of Robert and Hannah (Stanton) Cox of Holderness. She was enumerated as Almira A. age 32 in the 1850 census with her mother Hannah age 74 in Holderness. Also in the household was sister Hannah age 46.

Elmira married Dr. Robert Burns in 1851. (Her name was spelled Almira on that record; Robert Burns of Plymouth and Almira Cox of Holderness.) They had two children: Annie S. born Nov 21, 1852 and Robert born August 30, 1854, both born in Plymouth.

After Elmira's death the two children were living with their father in Plymouth. Robert was age 67, physician and children were Anna age 7 and Robert Jr. age 5.

Dr. Robert Burns who can be found among the Find A Grave entries listed as a Famous Person. According to his bio in the Directory of the United States Congress 1771-Present, his interment was in the churchyard of Trinity Church, Holderness, NH. Both Dr. Burns and Elmira also have stones in Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth.

Stone is located in the circle to the right of Trinity Church and to the immediate left of entrance through the main gate, Burns lot is #55 and Cox lot #57.
