Frank E. Modie, 73-year-old Spanish war veteran, died early yesterday morning at his home on Seminole avenue, East End, after being ill 10 days. Mr. Modie retired three years ago from the railroad express service and since then has been active in the affairs of the McArthur camp of the Spanish War Veterans and the First Presbyterian church. Born in Elkhart county, Indiana. Mr. Modie came to Lee county 22 years ago and took up a homestead near Bayshore. Later he moved into Fort Myers and his last run with the Atlantic Coast Line as express messenger was between Fort Myers and Jacksonville. He was a member of the Fides chapter of the Masonic lodge at West Pullman, Ill. Mr. Modie serves as clerk of the Presbyterian session for the past 15 years. He is survived by his sister, Miss Ella M. Modie, who has always made her home with him. Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning at the Presbyterian church with Dr. William G. Kennedy officiating and assisted by Rev. H. L. Wiggins. The Spanish War Veterans will take part in the services. The active pallbearers will be John E. Morris, Fred E. Mellor, Hans Hansen, F. W. Arnold, Walter J. Wood and Charles McWilliams. The honorary pallbearers will be Simon Loeb, L. M. Stroup, C. W. Hewitt, S. A. Elwell, Joseph A. Kitchen, Chappie Ellis, F. C. DesRochers and Uriah B. Hart.
