Sgt Kenneth R. Nichols Jr, of Georgetown, Illinois is a 2000 graduate of Georgetown-Ridge Farm High School. Almost everyone back home knew him as "Bub". He was an energetic man who loved to play football and ride his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, but loved his family and country even more. Kenneth was active as a member of the Georgetown-Ridge Farm football team and the FFA. He loved playing pranks, riding his Harley and hanging out in a shed he built behind his Colorado Springs home. Kenneth had worked at Troxel Industries after graduating from high school, but his love of country inspired him to enlist in the Army and he had served a tour in Iraq, from October 2006 to December 2007. He died at age 28 in Kunar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit using small arms and rocket-propelled grenade fires. Bub is survived by his wife and four children, including a 9-month-old daughter. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.
