Mr. Buckreus was born Aug. 2, 1893 in Hartford, the son of the late John and Anna Hagen Buckreus. He married Laura Hermine Zilch on Aug. 2, 1915 in Hartford. They were the parents of four children: Phyllis Jean, Allan John, Larry David and Nancy Ann. Following Laura's death in 1960, he married Bernice (Tackman) Zimmermann in 1961.
Mr. Buckreus began his career as a machinist in the Paramount Knitting company in Hartford, eventually becoming the manager of the Bear Brand Hosiery Factory in Gary, Indiana. In 1925 he was awarded a patent for an apparatus for uniting knit fabrics which permitted stockings to be manufactured in a tube, allowing for seamless stockings. In 1955 he was awarded a patent for producing crinkled yarn used to make modern nylon stockings. Upon his retirement, he and his wife, Laura, returned to Hartford.
Mr. Buckreus was an avid sportsman, spending many hours hunting, playing baseball and bowling.
Survivors include his wife, three children, Allan (Doris) Henderson, Ky., Larry (Ruth) San Jose, Calif., Nancy (Douglas) Oleson, Elkins, North Carolina, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is further survived by two sisters, Adele Buckreus, Hartford and Natalie (William) O'Neil, Hartford.
Services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran church, Hartford. The Rev. David Danielson will officiate. Friends and relatives may call at the church on Thursday from 5 p.m. until time of service. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery.
Memorials to Redeemer Lutheran church will be appreciated. The Berndt Funeral home served the family.
