As a youngster Tom lived in Little Rock, IL where he attended the two-room Little Rock Grade School. He was a 1944 graduate of the Plano High School in Plano, IL and a graduate of the University of Illinois.
Tom was united in marriage on April 10, 1954 in Aurora, IL to the former Miss Ellen E. Hershey and they spent the next 55 happy years together.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Mr. Gramley was a 55 year member of the First Christian Church in Aurora, IL.
Tom served his country proudly in the United States Navy during WWII with the Asiatic and South Pacific Fleet. He was a member of the U.S.S. Tutuila Association which was the repair ship he served on during the war. Tom was a member of the Plano American Legion Post #395 in Plano, IL. He was employed for many years, and later retired from Illinois Bell as an Electrical Engineer. Mr. Gramley was also a member of the Antique Radio Club of Illinois.
Tom is survived by his wife, Ellen E. Hershey Gramley of Plano, IL; his children, Clare (Paula) Gramley of Lincoln, IL and Catherine (Randy) Miller of Chico, CA; his grandchildren, Rebecca (Andrew) Brant of Lincoln, IL, Thomas Gramley of Lincoln, IL, Lyndelle, Rand and Aubrey Miller of Chico, CA; his great-grandchildren, Lily Joy and Logan Brant of Lincoln, IL; his brother William E. (Mary Louise) Gramley of Urbandale, IA and his sister June (Robert) Schumacker of Plano, IL; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Frances D. Gramley.
The Funeral Service will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 1010 West South Street in Plano, IL with Pastor Mike Ragan, officiating.
Private interment will take place in the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
Friends may visit from 2:00 P.M. until the Hour of Service on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at the Funeral Home in Plano, IL.
Interment is private.
