Graveside services for LTC J.W. Lawrence, Jr. (U.S. Army, Retired), were held on Friday, December 1, 2006 at 11 a.m. at National Cemetery, Alexandria.

J.W. Lawrence Jr. died on November 24, 2006 in Matthews Memorial Nursing Home, Alexandria.

He was a U.S. War Veteran, serving in the Navy during World War II, and in the Army during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He received the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with V; and Korea Campagin with six battle stars. He served his nation proudly in all that he set his hands to.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Mary Beth Kirk Lawrence of Alexandria; two sons, DuVal Lawrence of North Augusta, South Carolina, and David Hill of Boyce; one daughter, Denise Craig of Longview, Texas; one brother, Troy Lawrence of Simpson; and three grandchildren, Madeline, Sunny, and Wendy.

Preceded by his parents William McKinley Lawrence and Lillie Mae Phillips Lawrence, Sister Joy Lyn Lawrence
