Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, November 20, 2009, at the Mayodan Moravian Church, with Reverend Tim Byerly and Bishop Graham Rights officiating. Interment will follow at the Mayodan Moravian Graveyard with military graveside rites.
Mr. Williams was born in Rockingham County on August 25, 1918 to the late Sam Williams and Eva Spencer Williams. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on the USS Pennsylvania during the attack on Pearl Harbor in World War II. Mr. Williams was retired from Sears Retail with 28 years of service. He had also been employed with Ace Hardware of Mayodan. Mr. Williams was a devoted member of the Mayodan Moravian Church having served as Vice-chairman of the Board of Elders, charter member of the Men's Chorus, the Adult Choir and a Sunday School teacher .
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, of 70 years, Madge Bryant Williams; six brothers, Harvey Williams, Ted Williams, Otis Williams, Noel Williams, Jim Tom Williams, and John Williams; five sisters, Maggie Shropshire, Fannie Williams, Minnie Adkins, Tivis Euliss Chamberlain, and Ruth Morton.
He is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Connelly and husband Mickey of Stoneville; two grandchildren, Laura Springs and husband Kevin, and David Connelly and wife Susie; three great grandchildren, Spencer Springs, Caroline Connelly, and Claire Connelly; two sisters, Virginia Powers of Mayodan and Grace Schultz of Britthaven of Madison, formerly of Beaufort, NC.
