Ann Carmody Parsons

MURRELLS INLET Ann Carmody Parsons , passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 28, 2005.

Born in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of Francis Joseph Carmody, writer and drama critic for the Evening Star newspaper and Beata Himeman Carmody of East Aurora, New York. She grew up in Somerset, Md., attending the Maurais School, Cathedral and Stuart Hall.

She was widowed by navy pilot, Nelson Kenton Lancaster, who died in service at the end of World War II. They had one son, Nelson Kenton Lancaster Jr. In 1949, she married James Arthur Parsons of Washington, D.C. with whom she had two children, Geoffrey and Elizabeth. Mr. Parsons was a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the late 1930's and an attorney. They lived in Pittsburgh, and Roanoke, Va., until they retired and moved to Murrells Inlet. Mr. Parsons died in 1987.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and was very active in the Pittsburgh and Roanoke communities. She wrote an unpublished book and several essays, enjoyed oil painting, and held a patent on an original gift-wrapping storage box that has been copied and is sold worldwide today. She had been an avid golfer, loved entertaining and was an inventive, accomplished cook. She loved sports and particularly loved football season.

She was a vital, significant participant in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She was wonderful company, had a sharp wit and intellect, and had an excellent sense of humor. Her strength and ability to find the good in everything was an inspiration and tonic to so many that knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her two sons, Nelson ``Chip'' Parsons and Geoffrey J. Parsons of Murrells Inlet; one daughter, Elizabeth ``Betsy'' Fletcher of Conway, and three grandchildren, Jenna, Lucas, and Christian, all of Conway.
