Alex was age 62 when he passed away on Thursday at the Aurora Medical Center in Hartford. Born to Alex S. & Lucille (Adams) Hilber.
He married Connie Kieffer on Sept. 21, 1968, in Marshfield. He was a graduate of Colby High School and of UW-Stevens Point. Alex began his teaching career at Columbus High School in Marshfield. Later, he taught at Cassville High School, and finally, taught at Mayville High School until his retirement in 2006.
Alex was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mayville. He was also a member of the Mayville Lion's Club. Alex was head coach of the Cassville Football Program from 1977-1985. Afterwards, he became head coach of the Mayville Football Program from 1985-2001. Alex was inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association - Hall of Fame in 2002. He was also inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association - Hall of Fame on June 28, 2006.
Alex leaves behind his wife, a daughter, two sons and their wives, his father and mother-in-law, his sisters and brothers, seven grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his nephew, Ted.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church.
