"Robert C. 'Bob' Bowman 1918-2002
Lt. Colonel Robert C. 'Bob' Bowman, USAF Retired, died Nov. 22, 2002 in Sierra Vista at the age of 83.
He was born on Nov. 25, 1918 in Girard, Pa., to Clayton Strong Bowman and Viola Delores Biegert.
Bob was a graduate of the Staunton Military Academy in Staunton, Va., and graduated from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio with a bachelor's degree in Education.
He served 33 years in the U.S. Air Force and retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1978 with 9,000 hours of flying time as a pilot.
Bob was a member of the National Board of Directors, National Aerospace Education Council in Washington, D.C. and was an official witness to the launch of Apollo 8. He was also a member of the Aerospace Education Council of Arizona, Governor's Ad Hoc Aerospace Committee, State Board of Directors for Aerospace Education, was squadron Commander for Civil Air Patrol in Willcox and was Group Commander, Southeast Arizona Civil Air Patrol.
Bob came to Willcox in 1950 and taught Aerospace Education, Band and Driver Education at Willcox High School. He retired from the Willcox Public Schools in 1978 and served on the Willcox Board of Education from 1980-83.
Bob was also instrumental in getting Willcox's Cochise County Airport brought up to standards. He was a member of the Willcox United Methodist Church and Willcox Elks Lodge #2131.
On Oct. 23, 1943 in Canton, Ohio he married Paula Lockard.
His wife Paula of Willcox survives him.
His parents preceded him in death.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, Nov. 29, at the Willcox Elks Lodge beginning at 10 a.m.
Cremation was conducted at Westlawn Crematorium.
