Officer Philip Davis was shot and fatally wounded during traffic stop on I-65." Authorities say it happened here, closing down the highway during morning traffic for the investigation. Johnson has been charged with capitol murder. Officials are confident they have the right man.

Johnson reportedly fled the crime scene ditching a car in Inglenook. Some hours later he was in custody, along with his brother, Trussville police officer Bill Johnson. The pair were reportedly picked up while on their way back to Pelham so the suspect could turn himself in.

The suspect, Bart Johnson, is being held at the Shelby County jail. He's being held without bond.

Officer Davis had served with the Pelham Police Department for 4.5 years and had previously served with the Calera Police Department. He is survived by his wife and two children.
