She was previously a resident at the Swan Creek Retirement Village.
Verda was born in North Baltimore, Ohio, on October 23, 1908, to David and Louise Abbott.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a bookkeeper for 47 years at the former Tillotson Mfg. Co., now Borg-Warner Co.
She enjoyed sewing and made many clothes for herself as well as for others. She was compassionate and caring and devoted much of her life to helping others. However, it was her family that she cherished the most.
She is survived by her loving family; nieces, Juanita (Fred) Harrington, Joyce (Jerry) Krueger, Betty (Garry) Brown, Barbara (Gene) Holgrefe; nephew, Bob (Fran) Abbott and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Lucille Knaggs; brother, Orla Abbott and nephew, Victor Knaggs.
Verda's family wishes to extend special thanks to the caregivers at Swan Creek Retirement Village and at Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the excellent care that she received.
Friends are invited to visit after 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Ave. where a memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in North Baltimore, Ohio, at 3:30 p.m.
