James Henry White, age 79, former Clear Creek township assessor and trustee, died at 4:55 p.m. Tuesday at the home of his son, Ollan White, Bloomington Route Three. He had been ill for two years following a cerebral hemorrhage. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at the Knight Ridge Church with burial in the joining cemetery.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Phoebe Jane White, six daughters, Mrs. Donald Reynolds of Bloomington, Mrs. James Abbott, Mrs. Leroy Krebbs, Mrs. Roy Johnson, Mrs. Roy Bayne, Mrs. Norvall Grubb, all of Monroe county; six sons, James Ollan, Roy, all of Monroe county, Pete of Columbus, and Frank, who is serving with the armed forces in the Hawaiian Islands; 43 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A native of Bartholomew county, Mr. White was born there on February 12, 1867 to James B. and Liza Ann Burks White. He came to this county early in life and had farmed in Salt Creek township until his retirement a few years ago. He was active in Democratic politics and was elected to the two offices he held on that ticket.
The remains have been returned to the home of the son, Ollan White, Bloomington Route Three to lie in state until the funeral hour.
