Charles worked as an assembler from around 1924 to 1925 where he then worked as a school janitor from 1925 to 1926. He worked as a machinist in 1935. He was the husband of Anna Maude Sands, daughter of Thomas Sands and Mary Young. He had dark brown hair and brown eyes. He was outgoing, had a good sense of humor and he loved children. He was also a great fisherman. He had a market basket and he would take it with his lunch and bait. He had a folding stool that he would take then would take the street car and go down to Charlotte Pier and fish all day. He used to love to spend time with Herb, Bill, Don and Mike. He also liked to make big airplanes and fly them with the boys. He was a great storyteller. Charles's cause of death is uncertain. He had a heart that was very small, but it could have possibly been pneumonia. His obituary read as follows:

Charlas A. Akey, 29 Atkinson St., Spanish-American War veteran, died yesterday (March 4, 1956) at the age of 77.

A native of Rochester, Mr. Akey enlisted here on Oct. 17, 1898 and served as a private in Company M, 16th Regiment of Artillery, until Jan. 27, 1899. After the war, he returned to Rochester and was employed by the Gleason Works and Eastman Kodak Co. Camera Works. He retired several years ago.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Herbert Akey, Mrs. Howard W. Squires and Mrs. William N. Sutton; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Henry D. Halloran Sons Funeral Home, 141 Arnett Blvd. Burial will be in the veterns plot of Riverside Cemetery.
