Jacob and Barbara Bauer
Jacob, son of Henry and Barbara Moos Bauer was born on September 28, 1873 in South Russia. He came to New York with his parents, brother Henry, Jr. sister Katherine and both sets of grandparents in 1874. They traveled from New York to Yankton, South Dakota by train where his father homesteaded. His father sold his homestead and moved to North Dakota arriving in Glen Ullin by train in May of 1899, bringing with them horses, cattle, feed, corn and a Champion binder.
A late blizzard forced them to stay in Glen Ullin for several weeks, during which time their livestock was cared for by people in Glen Ullin and a Catholic priest who removed his buggy from his shed to make room for the horses.

Jacob married Barbara Krausz in 1898. Barbara was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Krausz and was born May 5, 1876 in Russia where she was educated. She came to America with her parents in 1892 to Menno, South Dakota .Jacob and Barbara lived in the Elgin area until 1929 when they moved to Mandan.

They were blessed with the following children: Mathilda, Emmanuel, August, Christ, Reinhold, Herman, Henry, Jeanette and Gottlieb. Mr.and Mrs. Jacob Bauer are both deceased.
