Note: (updated March 6, 2010)- When this memorial was first entered, this contributor used a family group sheet found at the Fairfield Public Library, Fairfield, Iowa, that provided family information for "Rachael Roach Vaughn" Wright. It specifically gave her parents names as William and Delilia Roach and used names, dates, and locations that appeared credible. However, it now appears that while William was Rachel's father, his first wife Anna was the biological mother (and whose burial location seems to be unknown, from what I now understand). Therefore, the mother/child relationship link that had been put into place on this memorial is now being deleted, removing the error that Delilia was Rachel's mother. Thanks to Linda for bringing this relationship link error to my attention on March 5, 2010.

If any additional information is found to be in error, please contact this contributor (use the SAC function so I know what memorial is in question) and I will be glad to make appropriate corrections or changes. /rkt

Rachel (a/k/a Rachael) Wright was first married to a minister, Jesse Vaughn and they had five children it is believed: James, William, Sarah, Nancy, and an unknown son who reportedly "ran away from home to join the army, being underage, & never heard of again."

Rachael/Rachel then married Basil Wright as his second wife (dates unknown). To them were born: Martha J Wright, Delilia/Delila Caroline Wright, Isaac Newton Wright, Joseph Alexander Wright, and Mary M Wright.

Note: Some family history sheets provide the death date as being May 13, 1882. The obituary and headstone for her indicate May 30, 1882.

While Basil is buried at Girard Township Cemetery, Rachael/Rachel is buried here at Charity Baptist Church Cemetery.

No contact information was provided, however. Obituary:
Died on Tuesday afternoon (May 30, 1882 ), in this city. Mrs. Basil WRIGHT, aged sixty four years. She was born in Tennessee, but has lived for many years in this section, and was beloved by all who knew her. Her remains were taken to Carlinville this morning for burial. The bereaved husband and children have the sympathy of this entire community in this hour of sorrow.
