Markley Paul Dykeman, 51, of Boise, Idaho passed on December 5, 2009 at St Alphonsus Medical Center following a long battle with cancer. He had "one more summer". You were born on a warm summer's day and greeted by a beautiful fall sunset when you passed away. Markley was born in Riverside, California on July 13, 1958 to Edgar and Kathaleen Dykeman. He had two older brothers, Jack and Robert. He lived most of his life in Riverside until 1996 when he moved to Boise. He loved Boise and never regretted moving. Markley married his soul mate, Cheri de la Garza, in September of 1986, it was love at first sight. They had no children but lived happily with two cats, Oscar and Molly. Markley graduated from Polytechnic High School and Riverside Jr. College and later received his B.S. in Workforce Education and Development from Southern Illinois University. He worked at the City of Riverside for 15 years as a data processor and manager of IT support until he relocated to Boise and began his career at Micron Technology as an Information Network and Security Engineer. Markley's motto was: "If it's fun, it's not a job". Markley enjoyed life and all it had to offer. "Don't worry be happy" was one of his mottos and he lived it to the fullest. Markley loved to sail his catamaran and other small craft. He was a true sailor. He never took the short way home. He and Cheri always took the scenic route and no matter the outcome, they always had fun. It was one big adventure after another. Markley had the ability to master any project he undertook with diligence and thoroughness. A few projects were his pond and waterfall that he built for his "sweetie" and complete restoration of his beloved Ugabuga, a 1969 VW. He taught himself how to play the flute and he entertained many a friend and his wife with his playing. Nobody was ever a stranger to Mark, as his hand was always extended in friendship. Mark was Mark, there was no pretense to him. He was a kind and humble human-being. Markley is survived by his wife, Cheri and mother, Kathaleen of Boise; his brother, Jack of Riverside, California; many relatives in Iowa; brothers-in-law, Ray de la Garza of San Diego; Jim Van Horn of Pasadena, California; and Bob Van Horn of Omaha, Nebraska; nephews and nieces, Brett and Bree de la Garza of San Diego; Justin and Lindsey, and his late brother Robert's children. He also leaves behind great and numerous friends. Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass; it's about learning to dance in the rain. Markley danced whether it was his "famous" chicken scratch dance or his bowling strike or spare dance. He loved life. My love, we'll always have eternity, plus one. Special thanks to Dr. Dan Zuckerman and all the staff at MSTI at St. Lukes; and to Dr. Gamboa and Maggie, Dustin, and all of the staff at Cancer Center of Idaho; and Dr. Hodsen and all the medical staff at St. Alsphonsus. All of you took such good care of Markley. A celebration of Markley's life will be held at the Education and Event Center at Barber Park, 4049 S. Eckert Rd, Boise at 2pm on Friday December 18, 2009.
