She was born March 19, 1933 in Blue Island, Ill., to Gertrude and Martin Schueman.
She graduated from the University of Illinois and worked for the chief justice of the State of California and other law offices in New Mexico. Besides working in the legal field, she also taught fabric art classes.
Since arriving in White Salmon a few years ago, she has been active with the Arts Council, the Skyline Hospital Foundation and other quilting groups. She became active in her community immediately upon arriving in White Salmon and was a member of the Hood River Nazarene church.
She was an avid reader and kept the librarians busy procuring new books for her. She had a wanderlust all of her life and traveled many times from the east to the west coast on vacations and to seek employment in Oregon, California, South Dakota and New Mexico prior to coming to Washington.
She loved her rose garden and the wild birds in her yard.
She is survived by her husband Lon Ahlers, White Salmon; brothers and their wives Gerry and Margaret Schueman, Virginia; and Ken and Sharron Schueman, Washington; children Douglas Plahm and his wife Debbie, Chicago; David Plahm, Arkansas; Marcia Sauer, New Mexico; and Cindy Feddern and her husband Mark, Arizona; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and four nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010 at the Hood River Church of the Nazarene. Inurnment will take place at the White Salmon Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in her honor may be given to Hood River Church of the Nazarene, 2168 Belmont, Hood River, OR 97031.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the nurses and doctors of Celilo Cancer Center in The Dalles and to Hospice of the Gorge.
